Discipline will enable you commit to particular goals, principles, values and actions. For a person to achieve discipline it is important that you develop the ability to understand and stay conscious of your thoughts for they become words, as well as your words for they become actions,
also watch your actions for they become habits and finally watch your habits for they become your character.

Wikipedia describes Discipline as the suppression of base desires, and is usually understood to be synonymous with restraint and self-control. Self-discipline is to some extent a substitute for motivation.

This is the control that is gained by requiring that rules or orders be obeyed and in summary it is a way of behaving that shows a willingness to obey rules. For a person to achieve the greatest height of success in life, he/she needs to be disciplined and above all cultivate the art of self-discipline and control.

In our contemporary society today, it is noticed that most of the issues and problems facing our society stems from indiscipline and lack of self-discipline and control. Wikipedia also describes Self-control as the ability to control one's emotions and behavior in the face of temptations and impulses.
As an executive function, self-control is a cognitive process that is necessary for regulating one's behavior in order to achieve goals.
Imagine a society where people have developed self-discipline and control, how successful, well organized and managed will that society be? It will be a society of peace, good governance and prosperity for all. In whatever a person desires and engages in, discipline plays a major role in determining the outcome be it positive or negative. For a person to explore their potentials either as an individual, community, state, region, country and continent they all have to be disciplined to achieve the best.

Corruption, lack of social amenities, poverty, owing workers salary, drug addiction, cultism, prostitution, exam malpractice, just to mention a few are all as a result of lack of discipline.
To achieve a better life as an individual and also a better society, economy as a country, I think the first step to take is to adapt the culture of discipline, because where there is discipline, less  laws are broken and people can co-habit in the most remarkable and honourable manner because discipline also leads to respect for rules, laws, emotions and even one another’s actions because people will tend to act in accordance to what is right. People will strive for the best and success without violating the rights of others. Discipline is not to be forced upon a person but it should be willingly developed for it to be able to sustain and test the hand of time.

Discipline also builds confidence in a person and a society, this is because when people are disciplined they tend to believe more in their capabilities and this has direct effect in motivating a person towards any goal and aim.
